Char Dham Yatra Registration free & mandatory

Why registration matters

The Uttarakhand government introduced compulsory registration to manage the huge number of pilgrims on narrow mountain roads and at small shrines. It lets the authorities know how many people are heading to each dham on each day, and it helps search and rescue teams if a road closes or someone goes missing. For you, it is also the gateway to a Kedarnath helicopter shuttle seat, because the IRCTC HeliYatra portal asks for a valid registration before you can book.

Registration is free. Any website, agent or social media page asking you to pay for "Char Dham registration" or an "e-pass" is not official.

What to keep ready

  • A working mobile number for OTP verification (one number can usually manage a group).
  • Full name, age and gender of every traveller, exactly as on their ID.
  • Photo ID details: Aadhaar is the most widely used; keep the original with you on the trip.
  • A recent photograph of each traveller, if the form asks for one.
  • Your travel dates for each dham: roughly which day you will reach Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.
  • An emergency contact at home.

If you are on one of our packages, we share the exact day-by-day dates with you so the registration matches the itinerary. For the usual sequence of days, see the Char Dham route map.

How to register online, step by step

  1. Open the official site or app. Go to registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in in your browser, or install the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app. Check the address carefully; copycat sites exist.
  2. Create an account. Sign up with your mobile number or email and verify it with the OTP.
  3. Choose individual or group registration. A family or group can be registered under one login, with each member added separately.
  4. Add traveller details. Enter the name, age, gender, ID details and photo for each person.
  5. Select your yatra. Pick the dhams you will visit and the dates you expect to be at each one. Choose only the shrines on your plan; a Do Dham traveller selects just Kedarnath and Badrinath.
  6. Submit and download. Once accepted, download the registration letter with its QR code for each traveller.
  7. Keep copies. Save it on your phone and carry a printout; signal is weak in many valleys.

Screens and field names on the portal can change between seasons. If something looks different, follow the instructions on the official site.

Can I register on arrival?

In recent seasons the state has also run registration counters at points on the route, such as Haridwar and Rishikesh, for pilgrims who cannot register online. Queues at these counters can be very long in May, and slots for popular dates may already be full. We strongly recommend registering online well before you leave home, especially for groups with elders.

If you are travelling with us, our team helps each traveller complete registration before departure, and checks that the dates fit the day-wise plan. See how this fits into a full trip on the Char Dham Yatra package 2026–27 page.

Registration and the Kedarnath helicopter

Shuttle helicopter seats from Phata, Sersi and Guptkashi to Kedarnath are sold only on the IRCTC HeliYatra portal (heliyatra.irctc.co.in). To book, you need a valid yatra registration for Kedarnath on the date you want to fly. The booking windows open in phases, and seats for peak weeks go quickly.

Shuttle routeRound trip (per person)Note
Phata – Kedarnath₹6,5002026 fare as listed by us
Sersi – Kedarnath₹6,500About the same as Phata (estimate)
Guptkashi – Kedarnath₹8,500Estimate

Fares are set each year. Register first, keep your registration number handy, and read our guides to IRCTC helicopter booking and Phata to Kedarnath helicopter before the window opens. We do not sell shuttle tickets, and nobody else can either.
