Kedarnath Badrinath Tour Package from Haridwar 2027

One loop, two valleys, four confluences

Seen on a map, the Kedarnath–Badrinath trip from Haridwar is a neat loop. You drive upstream along the Ganga, which above Devprayag becomes the Alaknanda, and branch into the Mandakini valley at Rudraprayag for Kedarnath. After darshan you cross the ridge at Ukhimath and Chopta into the upper Alaknanda valley for Badrinath, and then follow the river all the way back down. Nothing is repeated except the last stretch from Rudraprayag.

Along the way you pass Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag and Nandprayag, and Vishnuprayag lies just below Joshimath. For many pilgrims these confluences are part of the yatra in their own right, and our drivers stop at the viewpoints when traffic allows.

Kedarnath first or Badrinath first?

Our standard plan visits Kedarnath first, and there are good reasons for that. The trek is the hardest part of the yatra, and you do it on day 2 while your legs are fresh. Guptkashi is also the nearer valley, so the first driving day is shorter. Badrinath, reached by road, then becomes a gentler finish.

The reverse order makes sense in two cases: when your IRCTC shuttle tickets fall on a later date, or when early-season snow is still being cleared at Kedarnath. Tell us your helicopter date if you have one and we will build the loop around it.

Tour package cost from Haridwar

Rates are per person for four travellers sharing a vehicle and twin/triple rooms. They are 2027 estimates; the final figure depends on dates, hotels and group size.

Interesting arithmetic: two separate single-shrine trips would cost ₹17,000 on budget, while the combined loop costs ₹13,500 because the Ukhimath crossing links them without a return to the plains. Bigger groups can cut costs with a seat on our Do Dham bus tour at about ₹9,500 per seat, or hire a car only through Do Dham by car.

   Ganga to Mandakini: Haridwar – Guptkashi

   200 km7–8 hoursNight: Guptkashi

   Set off from Haridwar after an early breakfast. Beyond Rishikesh the valley narrows and the road hugs the river through Byasi and Devprayag. At Rudraprayag you leave the Alaknanda and follow the greener Mandakini to Guptkashi, an old temple town facing the Chaukhamba massif.

   The climb to Kedarnath

   Drive to Sonprayag at first light, then take the shared jeep to Gaurikund, where the Gauri Kund temple marks the trailhead. The path rises through Jungle Chatti, Bheembali and Lincholi into open meadows below the shrine. Ponies, palkis and pithoos are available at official counters. Check in and attend the evening aarti.

   Jyotirlinga darshan and return

   16 km trek + 30 km driveFull dayNight: Guptkashi

   Queue for darshan in the cold dawn, then climb to Bhairavnath temple, believed to guard the valley while the shrine is closed in winter. See the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi and the large rock behind the temple that shielded it in the 2013 flood. Walk down to Gaurikund and drive back to Guptkashi.

   Across the ridge to Badrinath

   200 km8–9 hoursNight: Badrinath

   Cross the Mandakini at Kund and drive through Ukhimath, where Lord Kedar is worshipped in winter, then through oak and rhododendron forest near Chopta. Join the Alaknanda at Chamoli, pass Nandprayag and Joshimath, and arrive at Badrinath in the late afternoon. A dip in the Tapt Kund hot spring is a welcome reward.

   Badri Narayan darshan and Mana

   160 km6–7 hours after darshanNight: Rudraprayag / Srinagar

   Attend early darshan, and perform pind daan for ancestors at Brahma Kapal if you wish. Drive 3 km to Mana village, often called the last village before the border, for Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa and Bhim Pul. Descend to Rudraprayag or Srinagar Garhwal for the night.

   6

   Down to Haridwar

   165 km6–7 hoursNight: Tour ends

   A relaxed drive back through Devprayag and Rishikesh brings you to Haridwar by mid-afternoon. There is time for the Har Ki Pauri aarti before an evening train or flight from Dehradun.

Advice for the Haridwar loop

• Arrive in Haridwar the evening before day 1 if your train is overnight; a fresh start makes the long first drive easier.
• Register every traveller in advance, free, at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in or the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app. Details: registration guide.
• Pack layers: Badrinath and Kedarnath are cold at night in every month of the season.
• Carry cash for the trail, ponies and small temple offerings.
• Elders can do the loop by pony, palki or shuttle helicopter; Badrinath needs no walking beyond the temple steps.
• Have a day of slack in your onward booking during July–August, when landslides are frequent.
