From the Bay of Bengal coast to the source valleys of the Ganga: a complete plan for Vizag pilgrims, from the first train or flight to the last darshan.
Visakhapatnam is one of the farthest major cities from Badrinath: about 1,750 km to Delhi and roughly 2,300 km to the temple by road. That distance shapes everything about the plan. The aim is to arrive in North India rested, keep the hill tour unhurried, and leave a cushion of time on the way home in case the mountains have other ideas.
Most Vizag families either fly to Delhi, often with a connection via Hyderabad or another hub, or take a long-distance train to Delhi that takes about a day and a half. We meet you on arrival and run the Badrinath tour from Delhi. If you can reach Dehradun by air, the shorter Haridwar package applies instead.
Here is how a typical train-and-road trip from Visakhapatnam fits together. Flying both ways shortens it by about two days.
| Day | Where you are | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | On the train | Leave Visakhapatnam; overnight and the next day on board |
| 1 | Delhi to Haridwar | Driver meets you at the station; drive to Haridwar |
| 2 | Haridwar to Joshimath | Long hill drive along the Ganga and Alaknanda |
| 3 | Badrinath | Darshan, Tapt Kund, Mana village |
| 4 | Srinagar Garhwal | Drive down the valley |
| 5 | Delhi | Drive to Delhi; board your train or stay overnight |
| 6–7 | On the train | Return to Visakhapatnam |
When the journey from home is this long, it is worth comparing what more time in the hills would cost. All prices below start and end in Delhi, per person, for four sharing a vehicle on budget hotels.
| Trip from Delhi | Duration | Budget | Deluxe | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Badrinath only | 4N / 5D | ₹10,500 | ₹14,500 | ₹22,500 |
| Kedarnath + Badrinath (Do Dham) | 6N / 7D | ₹15,500 | ₹22,000 | ₹33,000 |
| All four dhams (Char Dham) | 11N / 12D | ₹24,500 | ₹35,500 | ₹53,500 |
Estimated 2027 land prices. Final cost depends on dates, hotel category and group size. Train or air fare from Visakhapatnam is not included.
After the long train ride, your driver meets you at the Delhi station and helps with luggage. The drive north is on a good highway with a breakfast halt on the way. In Haridwar you check in, rest, and in the evening watch the Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri.
Today the hills begin in earnest. Beyond Rishikesh the road climbs along the river, passing Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag and Nandprayag. Your driver will stop whenever the family needs a break. Reach Joshimath by evening and sleep well; tomorrow is darshan day.
The last 45 km bring you past Pandukeshwar into the wide Badrinath valley. Bathe in the Tapt Kund, then take darshan of Badri Narayan. After lunch drive to Mana for Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa and Bhim Pul above the Saraswati. Attend the evening aarti and spend the night near the temple.
Take a quiet early darshan if you wish, or perform ancestral rites at Brahma Kapal. Then descend through Joshimath and Chamoli to Srinagar Garhwal, a lower, warmer town on the Alaknanda, for the night.
An early start brings you down through Rishikesh and Haridwar and across the plains to Delhi by evening. We drop you at the station for your train south or at a hotel if you leave the next day.
Two days on a train followed by long hill drives and a night above 3,000 m can tire even fit travellers. A little planning keeps the whole family well from start to finish.
Badrinath hotels range from about ₹2,000 to ₹8,000 a night by category; see Badrinath hotel booking.
