Door pick-up in Delhi, the two river-goddess shrines of Uttarkashi district, and back home in a week. A road yatra planned around early starts, short drives on darshan days and a Haridwar night at both ends.
Most pilgrims who search for this trip live in Delhi NCR or fly into Delhi from elsewhere. Starting the yatra at your own doorstep removes the first headache: getting to Haridwar with luggage, elders and children. Your vehicle and hill driver collect you from home, a hotel, the railway station or the airport, and the same car stays with you until you are dropped back in Delhi seven days later.
The route follows the western half of the Char Dham Yatra. Yamunotri (3,293 m), the source shrine of Goddess Yamuna, is reached by a 6 km walk from Janki Chatti. Gangotri (3,100 m), where Goddess Ganga descended to earth for King Bhagirath, has a road to the temple gate. Both lie in Uttarkashi district, so the drives are shorter than on the Kedarnath and Badrinath side, and the whole trip fits in a week of leave.
This is the same circuit sold as the Gangotri Yamunotri tour package from Haridwar, with one extra night and the Delhi–Haridwar transfer added at both ends. If you already live near Haridwar, the package from Haridwar is a day shorter and cheaper.
The figures below are per person for four travellers sharing one private vehicle and twin or triple rooms. Couples travelling alone pay more per head because the car cost is split two ways; groups of six to twelve usually move into an Innova Crysta or Tempo Traveller and the per-head cost stays close to these numbers.
| Package | Duration | Budget | Deluxe | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gangotri Yamunotri from Delhi | 6N / 7D | ₹14,500 | ₹21,000 | ₹31,500 |
| Gangotri Yamunotri from Haridwar / Rishikesh | 5N / 6D | ₹12,500 | ₹18,500 | ₹28,000 |
Estimated 2027 prices, starting from. Your final quote depends on travel dates, hotel category and group size. Pony, palki and pithoo at Yamunotri are paid on the spot and are not included.
Timings assume a normal season day. Your driver may move the departure earlier on the two darshan days to beat queues and afternoon weather.
Your driver picks you up in the morning from home, hotel, station or airport in Delhi NCR. The expressway and highway run past Meerut and Muzaffarnagar to Haridwar by mid-afternoon. Freshen up and walk to Har Ki Pauri for the evening Ganga aarti, a fitting start to a yatra dedicated to two rivers.
Leave right after breakfast and climb through Dehradun to Mussoorie, with a short halt near Kempty Falls. The road then drops to the Yamuna valley and follows the river through Naugaon to Barkot. Dinner is early tonight because tomorrow starts before sunrise.
Drive to Janki Chatti and begin the 6 km climb on foot, by pony, palki or pithoo. At the temple, cook a little rice tied in cloth in the Surya Kund hot spring as prasad and offer prayers at the Divya Shila before darshan of Goddess Yamuna. Walk back to Janki Chatti in the afternoon and return to Barkot.
A gentler day after the trek. Cross the ridge to the Bhagirathi valley and reach Uttarkashi by lunch. In the evening visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple and the Shakti temple opposite, and rest your legs for tomorrow.
Start at dawn and drive up the Bhagirathi past the Gangnani hot spring and the apple orchards of Harsil. At Gangotri take a dip or sprinkle river water at the ghats, see the Bhagirath Shila and join the darshan line. Return to Uttarkashi by evening.
Drive down through Chinyalisaur and Chamba towards Rishikesh, stopping at Laxman Jhula if time allows. Check in at Haridwar and spend a relaxed evening; many pilgrims buy Gangajal and prasad to take home here.
After breakfast, drive back to Delhi. You are dropped at home, a hotel, the station or the airport by evening. If you have a late flight, tell us when booking so the departure time can be set accordingly.
| Stop | Nights | Typical stay |
|---|---|---|
| Haridwar | 2 | City hotels near the ghats or the highway |
| Barkot | 2 | Hill hotels on the Yamuna valley road |
| Uttarkashi | 2 | Hotels along the Bhagirathi in town |
Hotels in the Yamunotri area usually cost ₹1,500–4,500 a room per night and Uttarkashi ₹1,800–5,500, so the jump from Budget to Luxury is mostly about room size, views and meals. For more detail see Yamunotri hotels and Gangotri hotels.
Leaving Delhi by 6 or 7 am avoids the worst of the NCR rush and gets you to Haridwar before the afternoon crowds on the highway. Weekend departures in May and June are slower, so a weekday start is worth considering.
Yamunotri and Gangotri usually open on Akshaya Tritiya in late April or early May; the 2027 date will be confirmed by the temple committees, and we post it on the opening dates page. The best weather is in May–June and from mid-September to October. July and August bring landslides on the Barkot and Uttarkashi roads. Read more in best time to visit.
Every traveller needs the free yatra registration, done online at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in or on the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app. Keep the QR code and an Aadhaar or other photo ID handy. Our registration guide shows each step.

Yes. Pick-up and drop anywhere in Delhi NCR is part of the package, including the airport and the main railway stations.
It is 6 km each way from Janki Chatti with a steady climb. Elders often take a pony or palki, paid on the spot at rates set by the local administration. Gangotri itself has road access to the temple.
Gaumukh glacier is 18 km beyond Gangotri and needs a forest permit and two extra days. Ask about our Char Dham with Gaumukh trek or a custom add-on.
Yes. Adding Kedarnath turns it into a three-shrine tour; adding Kedarnath and Badrinath makes it the full Char Dham Yatra from Delhi.
The Gangotri Yamunotri helicopter yatra from Dehradun takes 2 nights and 3 days, from ₹1,15,000 per person as an estimated charter price.
