Gangotri Yamunotri from Haridwar
- Station pick-up in Haridwar
- Barkot 2N, Uttarkashi 2N
- Return night in Haridwar
From the Sabarmati to the springs of the Yamuna and the Ganga. Ahmedabad pilgrims can reach Haridwar or Delhi overnight, and our road tour takes it from there.
For many Gujarati families, a dip in the Ganga at Haridwar is a lifelong tradition. Going further, to the very places where the Ganga and the Yamuna are worshipped at their source, is the natural next step. Ahmedabad is about 950 km from Delhi by rail and a little further to Haridwar, close enough for an overnight journey. From Haridwar our driver takes you up to Yamunotri (3,293 m) and Gangotri (3,100 m) and back in six days.
This is the gentlest way to see two of the four Char Dham shrines. Gangotri is a road journey right to the temple, and Yamunotri is a 6 km walk with ponies and palkis available. There is no 16 km Kedarnath climb, no very high night halt and fewer hours on the road than the full circuit.
| Gangotri Yamunotri | Full Char Dham | |
|---|---|---|
| Days from Haridwar | 6 | 10 |
| Trekking | 6 km each way | 6 km + 16 km each way |
| Highest night stop | Barkot / Uttarkashi (mid-hill towns) | Kedarnath, 3,583 m |
| Typical land price (budget) | From ₹12,500 | From ₹21,500 |
If you have ten days or more, consider the Char Dham Yatra from Ahmedabad instead. For Kedarnath alone, see the Kedarnath package from Ahmedabad.
There are three sensible ways to begin. The right one depends on how much time you have and who is travelling.
Our guides to Char Dham by train and Char Dham by air explain stations and airports in more detail.
Land prices are per person, for four travellers sharing a vehicle and rooms. Train or flight tickets from Ahmedabad are not included.
| Start point | Duration | Budget | Deluxe | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Haridwar / Rishikesh | 5N / 6D | ₹12,500 | ₹18,500 | ₹28,000 |
| Delhi | 6N / 7D | ₹14,500 | ₹21,000 | ₹31,500 |
2027 estimates; final price depends on dates, hotels and group size. Pony, palki, lunches on Budget/Deluxe and personal costs are extra.
We pick you up at Haridwar station or your hotel early in the morning. The drive passes Dehradun, climbs the Mussoorie hills and then follows the Yamuna upstream. Expect your first sight of snow peaks near Barkot by late afternoon.
From Janki Chatti the 6 km path climbs alongside the Yamuna to the temple. Pilgrims offer rice cooked in the boiling Surya Kund and pray at the Divya Shila before darshan. On the way back, many visit Kharsali village across the river, where the goddess spends the winter.
A short, scenic drive through pine forest to the Bhagirathi valley. Rest in the afternoon, then visit Uttarkashi's Kashi Vishwanath temple. Dinner is early; tomorrow is Gangotri.
Drive up through Gangnani and the Harsil valley, one of the loveliest stretches in Garhwal. At Gangotri, take darshan of Goddess Ganga, sit by the river at Bhagirath Shila and collect Gangajal. Return to Uttarkashi by evening.
Head down through Chamba, past Tehri lake, and on to Rishikesh for a short stop at Ram Jhula. Reach Haridwar in time for the evening aarti at Har Ki Pauri, a fitting farewell to Ma Ganga.
After breakfast we drop you at Haridwar station for your train to Ahmedabad, or at Dehradun airport. Guests on the Delhi plan drive back to Delhi on this day and leave on day 7.
Hotels around Barkot and Janki Chatti cost roughly ₹1,500–4,500 per room per night, and Uttarkashi ₹1,800–5,500, depending on category. Rooms are simple but clean on budget plans; deluxe and luxury plans use the better-rated properties. See Yamunotri hotels and Gangotri hotels.
