Badrinath from Haridwar
- Pickup at Haridwar station
- Joshimath and Badrinath nights
- Mana village
Bhopal sits on the main rail line to the north, which makes the train the natural way to start a Badrinath yatra. Step off at Haridwar, and four days later you are back on the platform with darshan done.
Pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh grow up close to great temples: Mahakal at Ujjain, Omkareshwar on the Narmada, the Bhojpur Shiva temple just outside Bhopal. Badrinath, the northern dham of Lord Vishnu, is a natural next step, and it is also the most accessible of the four Himalayan dhams because a road reaches the town. There is no trek, which makes it a good choice for elders and for a first Himalayan pilgrimage.
Bhopal is roughly 700 km from Delhi and around 950 km from Haridwar by rail. Overnight trains run daily to Delhi, and some services from Madhya Pradesh continue to Haridwar and Dehradun. Our recommended plan is to take the train to Haridwar and join the 3N/4D road tour from there. The 2026 season ends in mid-November, so the prices on this page are 2027 estimates.
| Get off at | Approx. train time from Bhopal | Road tour | Package price from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haridwar | About 16–20 hours | 3N / 4D | ₹8,500 |
| Delhi (Nizamuddin or New Delhi) | About 8–11 hours | 4N / 5D | ₹10,500 |
Getting off at Haridwar saves a night and about ₹2,000 per person, because there is no Delhi–Haridwar drive. Getting off at Delhi gives you many more trains to choose from, and some of them are fast day trains. Both work well; we plan around whichever ticket you can book. See Char Dham by train for general rail tips and the Delhi-based Badrinath tour for the five-day version.
Prices are per person for four travellers sharing a vehicle and twin or triple rooms. Train fares are booked by you.
| Road tour | Duration | Budget | Deluxe | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Badrinath from Haridwar / Rishikesh | 3N / 4D | ₹8,500 | ₹12,000 | ₹18,500 |
| Badrinath from Delhi | 4N / 5D | ₹10,500 | ₹14,500 | ₹22,500 |
2027 estimates. The final quote depends on travel dates, hotel category and group size.
If your train reaches Haridwar in the evening, we book a night there before Day 1 at hotel cost, so you start the mountain drive fresh.
Your driver meets you at Haridwar station or your hotel early in the morning. The road enters the hills at Rishikesh and follows the Ganga, then the Alaknanda, past Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag and Nandprayag. You reach Joshimath, also called Jyotirmath, by evening and rest for the next day.
Drive past Vishnuprayag and Govindghat to Badrinath. After a bath in the Tapt Kund, take darshan of Badri Narayan. In the afternoon visit Mana, 3 km away, with Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa and the natural stone bridge of Bhim Pul. Stay near the temple and attend the evening aarti.
An early darshan before breakfast is the most peaceful of the trip. Perform pind daan at Brahma Kapal if your family wishes. Then drive down the Alaknanda valley to Rudraprayag, where the Mandakini joins from Kedarnath.
Drive via Devprayag and Rishikesh to Haridwar, arriving by afternoon. The driver drops you at the station for your train to Bhopal. With a later train, you have time for a dip at Har Ki Pauri and the evening aarti.
The road tour is short, so every night counts. Each stop is chosen to break the drive at a sensible point and to put you close to the temple on the darshan day.
| Night | Town | Why we stop here |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Joshimath (Jyotirmath) | Last large town below Badrinath; good hotels and an easy final climb next morning |
| 2 | Badrinath | Evening aarti and a quiet dawn darshan; rooms about ₹2,000–8,000 per night |
| 3 | Rudraprayag or Srinagar | Halfway point on the return; riverside towns on the Alaknanda |
Your driver knows the good tea stops and clean washrooms on this route, which matters on long mountain days. If anyone in the family suffers from motion sickness, sit them in the front seat and ask the driver to stop every hour or so.
Many MP pilgrims travel with relatives or a temple committee. Groups of six fit an Innova Crysta; groups of ten to seventeen travel together in a Tempo Traveller, which usually lowers the per-person cost. Bigger groups can be split across vehicles with one coordinator.
Rooms at Badrinath cost roughly ₹2,000–8,000 per room per night; see Badrinath hotel booking for what each category offers.

Take a train to Haridwar or Delhi, then travel by road. From Haridwar it is about 320 km to Badrinath, covered over two days with a night at Joshimath.
Some trains from Madhya Pradesh run to Haridwar and Dehradun, though not every day. Check current schedules on IRCTC; if none suits you, travel to Delhi and choose the 4N/5D plan.
About ₹8,500 per person from Haridwar or ₹10,500 from Delhi, on budget hotels for four travellers. Train fares are extra. These are 2027 estimates.
About six days: one night on the train each way plus the four-day road tour. Starting from Delhi adds one more day.
