Kedarnath Helicopter from Delhi
- Car from Delhi to the Guptkashi area
- Shuttle seat booked on IRCTC HeliYatra
- Darshan and back without the trek
Seven days from Delhi and back, four shrines, almost no mountain driving. Here is how the journey fits together, what it costs, and when a part-helicopter plan makes more sense.
There is no helicopter from Delhi to the dhams. Every Char Dham charter flies from the Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun, so a trip from Delhi has three parts: reaching Dehradun, the five-night flying circuit, and getting home. Seen that way, the whole journey takes about seven days, against eleven or twelve for the same shrines by road.
The flying circuit links four helipads close to the temples: Kharsali for Yamunotri, Harsil for Gangotri, the Guptkashi area for Kedarnath and Badrinath itself. You spend a night at each, and two at Guptkashi so Kedarnath can be done on a fresh morning. For a ready-made version with our car from your door, see the Char Dham helicopter package from Delhi.
| Mode | Time | Good for | Points to note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private car | 5–6 hours | Families, door-to-door pick-up | Included in our Delhi package; leave around midday the day before |
| Overnight or day train to Dehradun | Roughly 5–9 hours by train | Budget-minded travellers | Book early in May–June; we collect you from the station |
| Flight to Jolly Grant | About 1 hour in the air | Guests short of time or from far cities | Airport is about 35–40 minutes from Sahastradhara |
Whichever you choose, arrive the day before. Mountain flights leave in the morning, and a late train or flight on the same day can cost you your slot. Guests coming from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata or other far cities usually fly straight to Jolly Grant rather than changing in Delhi; the Dehradun helicopter yatra page is written for them.
Leave Delhi around midday by car, or take a train or flight. The road runs through Meerut and Roorkee, with the Shivalik hills appearing near the end. Check into a Dehradun hotel, pack your small helicopter bag and get an early night.
Report at Sahastradhara after breakfast for check-in and weighing. The flight crosses the Mussoorie range and drops into the Yamuna valley at Kharsali. In the afternoon, go from Janki Chatti to Yamunotri along the 6 km path, on foot or by pony or palki, for darshan and a visit to Surya Kund.
Hop across to the Bhagirathi valley and land at Harsil. A car drives you to Gangotri for darshan of Goddess Ganga. The afternoon in Harsil is slow and beautiful, with the river running past orchards and deodar.
The longest flight of the circuit brings you over the ridges to Guptkashi. This is a rest day by design. Sit out in the sun with views of Chaukhamba and let your body adapt before the next morning at 3,583 m.
Fly up the Mandakini gorge early and walk the short distance to the temple. Take darshan, see the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi, and fly back before the afternoon cloud rolls in. The evening is free in Guptkashi.
Cross into the Alaknanda valley and land at Badrinath. Bathe in the Tapt Kund, take darshan of Badri Narayan and join the evening aarti. If the weather holds, see Mana village and Bhim Pul.
After morning darshan, fly back to Sahastradhara and start the drive to Delhi. With a lunch break you reach home by late evening. If the last flight is delayed, staying one more night in Dehradun is safer than a late-night drive.
The helicopter yatra costs several times more than the road trip, so it is worth seeing the numbers side by side before deciding.
| From Delhi | Days | Budget / base | Deluxe | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Char Dham by road | 11N / 12D | ₹24,500 | ₹35,500 | ₹53,500 |
| Char Dham by helicopter (with transfers) | 5N / 6D yatra + transfer day | ₹2,20,000 | On request | On request |
2027 estimates per person. Road prices are for four people sharing a car with breakfast and dinner. Helicopter prices include all meals during the yatra; the Dehradun night before is extra.
The road package is described on Char Dham Yatra from Delhi. For luxury hotels by road, see the luxury package.
Many Delhi travellers do not need the full charter. The hardest part of the yatra is Kedarnath, and that alone can be flown.
About seven days: one to reach Dehradun, five nights on the flying circuit and the drive back to Delhi on the last day.
No. Charter flights leave from Dehradun, and Kedarnath shuttle flights leave from Phata, Sersi and Guptkashi. From Delhi you first travel by road, train or flight.
From about ₹2,20,000 per person with road transfers, compared with about ₹24,500 for the 11-night road trip. Both are 2027 estimates.
A car is simplest for families and is included in our package. A flight to Jolly Grant saves time. A train is cheapest. Whatever you choose, arrive the day before.
