Planning Kedarnath from Bengaluru: the short answer

Bengaluru is around 2,100 km from Delhi as the crow flies and further by rail, so the practical choice for most pilgrims is to fly. You can land at Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun, which is about 35 km from Haridwar and Rishikesh and the closest airport to Kedarnath, or at Delhi, which has more flights and often lower fares. Our land package then picks you up at the airport and handles everything to the temple and back.

If a morning flight lands you in Dehradun before about 11 am, you can drive to Guptkashi the same day. Later arrivals should spend the first night in Rishikesh or Haridwar. The Delhi route suits groups who find better fares there; they join our Kedarnath package from Delhi. For more on flying, read Char Dham Yatra by air.

A southern thread in a Himalayan shrine

Pilgrims from Karnataka often feel an unexpected sense of connection at Kedarnath. Adi Shankaracharya, who was born in Kerala and founded the Sringeri matha in Karnataka, travelled to the Himalaya to revive these shrines, and tradition holds that he attained samadhi at Kedarnath. His samadhi shrine stands just behind the temple, and most visitors pause there after darshan.

The same tradition links Badrinath to the south: its chief priest, the Rawal, comes from a Namboodiri family of Kerala. If you can spare two more days, adding Badrinath makes the journey feel complete; see the Kedarnath Badrinath tour package for the combined plan.

Estimated prices for Bengaluru pilgrims

Per-person land costs for four travellers sharing one car and twin/triple rooms, 2027 estimates. Flights from Bengaluru are booked by you and not included. The final quote depends on your dates, hotels and group size.

Since the flight is the single biggest cost, many Bengaluru families make the trip count by adding Badrinath (Do Dham from Bengaluru) or doing all four shrines (Char Dham from Bengaluru). Nature lovers enjoy adding Tungnath and the Chopta meadows on the Kedarnath Tungnath package.

Not included: flights, helicopter, pony, palki, the Sonprayag – Gaurikund jeep, puja and lunch on Budget/Deluxe.

Tips for pilgrims coming from the south

Climate and clothing

Bengaluru's mild weather can make travellers underestimate the cold. Kedarnath mornings are near freezing even in May, and October nights drop below zero. Pack thermal innerwear, a padded jacket, woollen cap, gloves and a rain jacket. Our packing list has the details.

Food

Meals on the route are North Indian vegetarian: rotis, dal, rice and sabzi. Rice is easy to get; South Indian dishes are found mainly in Rishikesh and Haridwar. Carry a few familiar snacks for the trek day.

Altitude and fitness

  • Walk 4–5 km daily for a month before travel to prepare for the trek.
  • Start the climb early, rest every half hour and drink water often.
  • Anyone with heart, lung or blood pressure conditions should see a doctor before booking.
  • Keep a buffer day before your return flight between July and September, when weather can close roads.

Registration

Every pilgrim must register free on registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in or the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app. Read the registration guide before you book flights.
