Kedarnath 3N/4D from Haridwar
- Guptkashi and Kedarnath nights
- Trek, pony or palki on the spot
- Back in Haridwar by day 4 evening
Haridwar is where the Kedarnath road really begins. Take a dip at Har Ki Pauri, meet your driver at the station or your hotel, and be in Guptkashi, a day's walk from the shrine, by evening.
Pilgrims have set out for the Himalayan shrines from Haridwar for centuries, and the logic still holds. It is the last big railhead on the plains, it has rooms in every budget, and from here a single day's drive of about 200 km brings you to Guptkashi, the town most travellers use as the base for Kedarnath. Starting in Haridwar rather than Delhi saves a full day and a long stretch of highway driving.
This package is built for people who arrive in Haridwar by train, bus or a flight into Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport, which is about 35 km away. We pick you up, drive you into the Mandakini valley, hand you over to the trek at Sonprayag, and bring you back four days later. If you would rather start a few kilometres upstream, the same plan runs from Rishikesh; see the Kedarnath package from Rishikesh.
All three hotel categories use the same route, vehicle type and driver. What changes is the room you sleep in at Guptkashi, the meal plan and, where it is available, the cottage or room type at Kedarnath.
| Hotel category | Per person (group of 4) | Rooms at Guptkashi | Meals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | ₹8,500 | Clean standard rooms | Breakfast + dinner |
| Deluxe | ₹12,500 | Better-rated hotels, valley views | Breakfast + dinner |
| Luxury | ₹19,500 | Best available properties | All meals |
2027 estimates, starting from. The final price depends on your dates, hotel choice and number of travellers. Two travellers sharing a car pay more per head; groups of 10–12 in a Tempo Traveller pay less.
Check out early and meet your driver at your Haridwar hotel or Haridwar Junction. Past Rishikesh the highway climbs into the Garhwal hills, and at Devprayag you can stop to watch the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda merge into the Ganga. After lunch near Rudraprayag the road follows the Mandakini to Guptkashi, where dinner and an early night are the plan.
A pre-dawn start gets you to Sonprayag before the jeep queues grow. Your registration is checked here, and a shared jeep takes you to Gaurikund, where the walk begins beside the hot spring. Climb at a steady pace, resting at the rest shelters along the way; most pilgrims reach the temple in the afternoon, check in, and attend the sandhya aarti.
Wake around 4 am for darshan of the Jyotirlinga, a rock shaped like the hump of a bull. Afterwards, climb the short path to the Bhairavnath temple and pay respects at the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi. Begin the descent by mid-morning, collect your jeep from Gaurikund, and rejoin your driver at Sonprayag for the drive to Guptkashi.
A slower morning after two hard days, then the drive down the valley. We drop you at Haridwar station, the bus stand or your hotel in the late afternoon, and those staying on can reach Har Ki Pauri for the evening aarti. If you are flying out, we can drop you at Jolly Grant airport instead.
| Stop | Altitude (approx.) | Room rate per night | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guptkashi / Sitapur | About 1,300–2,000 m | ₹2,000–6,500 | Comfortable hotels; Sitapur is closer to Sonprayag |
| Kedarnath | 3,583 m | ₹2,500–6,000 | Basic stays; hot water by bucket, early check-out |
Kedarnath rooms sell out first in May and June, so we confirm them before anything else. Details on room types are on the Kedarnath hotel page.
If you manage to buy shuttle seats on the IRCTC HeliYatra portal, the itinerary changes only slightly. Your driver takes you to the helipad at Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi instead of Sonprayag, and you may be able to return the same day. The 2026 Phata round trip was ₹6,500 per person; Guptkashi costs more, about ₹8,500 as an estimate. Fares are set each year.
We do not sell shuttle tickets and no agent legitimately can. Use only heliyatra.irctc.co.in, and beware of look-alike pages and WhatsApp offers. Read how to book on IRCTC and the Guptkashi helipad guide before the booking window opens.
Unsure whether May or October suits you? Our best time to visit guide compares weather, crowds and road conditions month by month.
About 230 km: roughly 200 km by road to Guptkashi, 30 km more to Sonprayag, then 5 km by shared jeep to Gaurikund and the 16 km trek.
Only with confirmed helicopter seats, and even then it is tiring. By road and trek, 3 nights and 4 days is the realistic minimum.
Estimated from ₹8,500 per person (budget), ₹12,500 (deluxe) and ₹19,500 (luxury) for a group of four in 2027.
At Haridwar Junction railway station, the bus stand or any hotel in the city. Pick-up from Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun can also be arranged.
Buses run to Sonprayag in season, but a private vehicle lets you start early and stop when you like. For seat-in-coach tours see Do Dham by bus.
Yes, with two more nights. The Kedarnath Badrinath tour from Haridwar runs 5 nights and 6 days.
Yes, until the temple closes on Bhai Dooj in November. October brings clear weather and shorter queues, though nights at Kedarnath are freezing.
