Kedarnath Helicopter Booking through GMVN What Changed

Many pilgrims still search for the GMVN helicopter booking site they used years ago. The system has moved on: here is where Kedarnath shuttle seats are sold today, and what GMVN still does for yatris.

  • Shuttle seats now on IRCTC HeliYatra
  • GMVN: state tourism body
  • Beware of "GMVN heli" fake sites
  • We are not GMVN or IRCTC

Kedarnath Helicopter Booking through GMVN What Changed

Who GMVN is, and why people link it with the helicopter

GMVN, the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, is the Uttarakhand government's tourism undertaking for the Garhwal region. For decades it has been part of every Char Dham pilgrim's journey, running tourist rest houses in yatra towns, operating tours, and at various times handling bookings connected with the yatra.

In earlier seasons, online bookings for the Kedarnath helicopter shuttle were linked to GMVN's systems, so an entire generation of pilgrims learned to search for "GMVN heli booking". In recent seasons, that changed: shuttle seats from the Kedar valley helipads are now sold only on the IRCTC HeliYatra portal (heliyatra.irctc.co.in), after the pilgrim's free yatra registration. Searching for the old route today mostly leads to outdated pages, and, more dangerously, to fake sites that copy GMVN's name.

Char Dham Trip is a private travel company in New Delhi. We are not GMVN, IRCTC, BKTC or any government body, and we do not sell shuttle tickets. We help pilgrims prepare for the IRCTC booking and plan the rest of the journey.

Fake "GMVN helicopter booking" websites

Because so many people still type "GMVN Kedarnath helicopter" into search engines, fraudsters build lookalike pages using the GMVN name, logos and photos of the temple. They often appear as paid ads at the top of search results, or as social media pages with phone numbers. Typical warning signs:

  • The site offers Kedarnath helicopter tickets but is not heliyatra.irctc.co.in.
  • You are asked to pay by UPI or bank transfer to a personal name.
  • The "booking officer" calls or messages you on WhatsApp.
  • There is pressure: "only two seats left, pay in ten minutes".
  • No yatra registration number is asked for.

If you have paid such a site, inform your bank at once and file a complaint on the national cyber-crime portal, cybercrime.gov.in. Then start the genuine process on IRCTC.

Where GMVN still matters on the yatra

GMVN remains an important part of the pilgrimage, just not for helicopter tickets. Its tourist rest houses are found in many towns on the Char Dham route, and they are a popular choice for budget-minded pilgrims who want simple, government-run rooms. Bookings for these are made through GMVN's own channels.

On our road packages, we use a mix of private hotels and guest houses chosen for location and cleanliness, and we can include a GMVN rest house where you prefer one and rooms are available. Price ranges for each area are on our hotel pages: Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

How to book the Kedarnath helicopter in 2027

  1. Wait for the opening date of Kedarnath, announced on Mahashivratri at Ukhimath.

  3. Create an IRCTC HeliYatra account and keep registration numbers handy.

  5. Plan the road journey and hotels around the slot. We can do this for you from Delhi, Haridwar or Dehradun.
HelipadRound trip per personMore detail
Phata₹6,500 (2026)Most flights; on the main valley road
SersiAbout the same as Phata (estimate)Quieter base near Sitapur
GuptkashiAbout ₹8,500 (estimate)Closest to the valley's main town

Helipad guides: Phata, Sersi, Guptkashi.

Reaching the valley helipads

Whichever helipad you book, the route in is the same: Haridwar or Rishikesh, then up the Ganga to Devprayag, along the Alaknanda to Rudraprayag, and into the Mandakini valley towards Guptkashi. Haridwar to Guptkashi is about 200 km and takes seven to eight hours; Phata, Sersi and Sitapur lie further along the road towards Sonprayag.

  • Spend the night before the flight in the valley, not in Haridwar.
  • Allow for slow traffic in peak weeks, especially near Sonprayag.
  • Keep the e-ticket, registration letter and ID in your hand luggage.
  • If you are coming from Delhi, add a night in Haridwar on the way; see Kedarnath package from Delhi.

How we can help

Most people who searched for GMVN booking really want one thing: a smooth Kedarnath darshan without the 16 km climb. That is something we can plan end to end, while you hold the IRCTC ticket in your own name.
