Booking a Crysta: what you are actually reserving

When you book an Innova Crysta for the yatra, you are reserving three things: a well-maintained vehicle, a driver who has worked these hill roads before, and that pair for every day of your trip. The car and driver stay with you from the first pick-up to the last drop, wait at road heads while you trek, and adjust timings around darshan queues and weather.

The Crysta is popular for the Char Dham because it seats six adults comfortably with luggage, and its ride is steadier than smaller cars on broken stretches. Families with elders, small groups of friends and anyone sensitive to motion sickness tend to prefer it. You can book it on its own and arrange hotels yourself, or as part of a full package.

Innova Crysta fares by route (2027)

2027 estimates. Fares include fuel, driver, tolls, parking, state permits and driver allowance. Extra days, detours or a later drop are charged at actuals in your quote.

Checklist before you book any Char Dham taxi

• Is everything in the fare? Fuel, tolls, parking, state permits and driver allowance should all be included, with no per-km surprises later.
• Is the driver used to hill roads? Ask whether he has driven the full Char Dham circuit before.
• Same car, same driver? Changing vehicles mid-trip wastes time and causes confusion.
• Is the vehicle commercially registered? Taxis on the yatra need commercial registration and the necessary permits.
• What happens on landslide days? Extra days are usually extra; get the rule in writing.
• Who do you call if something goes wrong? You should have a support number besides the driver's.

Working with your driver

Your driver is more than the person at the wheel. He knows where the parking fills first at Janki Chatti and Sonprayag, which roadside dhabas are clean, and when to leave so that a long day ends before dark. Agree the next morning's start time with him each evening, share your phone number, and tell him early if anyone feels unwell. Drivers rest while you trek, so the car is always ready when you come down.

Drivers on our trips do not drive the hill roads after dark, even when a group asks to push on. It can mean a slightly earlier start, but it is the single best safety habit on the yatra.

The 10-day Crysta circuit from Haridwar

   Pick-up from your Haridwar hotel or the railway station. The Crysta climbs through Dehradun and Mussoorie before dropping to the Yamuna. Short breaks for tea and lunch on the way. Night in Barkot.

   Yamunotri

   45 km + 6 km trekFull dayNight: Barkot

   Early start for Janki Chatti, where the car waits in the parking area. You walk or ride the 6 km to Yamunotri and back. The driver tracks your return time and has the car ready. Back to Barkot.

   Barkot to Uttarkashi

   100 km4–5 hoursNight: Uttarkashi

   A lighter driving day that gives everyone a breather. The road crosses into the Bhagirathi valley. Evening visit to Kashi Vishwanath temple.

   The Crysta takes you right up to Gangotri via Gangnani and Harsil. Darshan and time by the river. The return is timed to reach Uttarkashi in daylight.

   The longest drive of the circuit, via Tehri and Srinagar. Reclining seats and air-conditioning make the hours easier. Arrive by evening near the Kedarnath road head.

   30 km + 16 km trek6–8 hours walkingNight: Kedarnath

   The car drops you at Sonprayag; shared jeeps carry pilgrims to Gaurikund. From there you trek, ride or fly up if you hold IRCTC shuttle tickets. The car and driver stay below while you spend the night at Kedarnath.

   Back to Guptkashi

   16 km trek + 30 kmFull dayNight: Guptkashi / Sitapur

   Darshan at dawn, then the descent. Call the driver from Gaurikund so the car is ready at Sonprayag. Rest at Guptkashi.

   Guptkashi to Badrinath

   200 km8–9 hoursNight: Badrinath

   Cross via Ukhimath and Chopta to the Badrinath highway. Climb past Joshimath to Badrinath. Tapt Kund and evening aarti.

   160 km6–7 hoursNight: Rudraprayag / Srinagar

   Morning darshan, then a short drive to Mana village. Afternoon descent along the Alaknanda. Night at Rudraprayag or Srinagar.

    Return to Haridwar

    165 km6–7 hoursNight: Tour ends

    Down via Devprayag and Rishikesh to Haridwar. Drop at your hotel, the station or Dehradun airport (about 35 km) on request. The booking ends here.
