Global Vectra and how Kedarnath operators are chosen

Global Vectra is a private helicopter company whose name comes up often when pilgrims look for a Kedarnath flight. On this route, though, operators do not run independent services that you pick from a menu. Each season the state's civil aviation body selects operators and assigns them to particular helipads in the valley. The result is a single shared system: one booking portal, one fare per helipad, and a fixed set of flights each day.

In other words, you do not choose Global Vectra and then find a helipad. You choose a helipad and a date on IRCTC HeliYatra, and the operator assigned there that season is the one who flies you. If you particularly want a certain company, check the helipad-wise operator list when 2027 booking opens, since assignments can change between seasons.

Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi: which helipad suits you?

The three shuttle helipads sit along the road from Guptkashi to Sonprayag. They are close to each other, but the differences matter when you are travelling with elders or on a tight schedule.

Book whichever helipad has seats on your date; availability matters more than anything else. If you have a choice, Phata keeps the fare down, Guptkashi gives the best hotels for an early start, and Sersi is handy if part of your group plans to trek from Gaurikund while others fly. Picking your month and time of day

Kedarnath usually opens in late April or early May, with the date announced on Mahashivratri, and closes on Bhai Dooj in November. The shuttle runs through the season but slows or stops in heavy rain.

• May and June are the busiest weeks. Seats sell out within hours of a booking phase opening, and the queues at the temple are long.
• July and August bring the monsoon. Flights are often cancelled and roads face landslides; avoid this period if you can.
• Mid-September to October has the clearest skies and better seat availability. It is our favourite window for a helicopter trip.
• Mornings are usually clearer than afternoons, so an early slot leaves more margin if weather turns.

Getting a seat: a short checklist

1. Register. Finish the free yatra registration for each traveller on registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in or the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app.
2. Prepare the details. Keep registration numbers, ID numbers and payment method ready before the booking window.
3. Book on heliyatra.irctc.co.in. Try your preferred helipad first, then the other two on the same date.
4. Share the ticket with us. We book the hotel nearest your helipad and time the drive so you arrive the evening before.
5. Travel. Carry the ticket, registration QR and photo ID; reach the helipad early.

Fitting the flight into a longer yatra

A shuttle seat also shortens bigger journeys. On the full Char Dham Yatra, flying to Kedarnath turns two hard trekking days into one, which can free a day for rest or for a detour to Tungnath. Remember that the night stop matters as much as the seat. An early-morning slot from Phata is easy from a Phata or Sersi hotel and stressful from Rudraprayag.
