Board an overnight train in Bhopal, wake up in Delhi, and be beside the Ganga at Haridwar by evening. From there it is eight more days to Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath with your own vehicle and driver.
Pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh grow up close to two Jyotirlingas, Mahakaleshwar at Ujjain and Omkareshwar on the Narmada. Kedarnath, the highest of the twelve at 3,583 m, is often the next one on a family's list. The Teen Dham Yatra pairs it with Badrinath, Lord Vishnu's Himalayan shrine, and Gangotri, the temple at the source of the Ganga, in a single road journey that leaves out only Yamunotri.
Bhopal has an easy connection north. Delhi is about 780 km away, and several overnight trains leave in the evening and arrive the next morning, so you lose no daylight. A flight takes around an hour and a half. Our driver collects you in Delhi and the 8-night plan begins straight away, ending back in Delhi in time for the night train home.

The same plan works for most of Madhya Pradesh. Pilgrims from Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior also reach Delhi by overnight train or flight; Gwalior is close enough that some groups prefer a road transfer. See the Char Dham pages for Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior if you want all four dhams.

What the Kedarnath day is really like
The Kedarnath climb is the one part of this yatra that needs preparation. The path from Gaurikund is paved and well lit in places, with shelters, tea stalls and medical points along the way, but it gains well over a thousand metres in 16 km. Most healthy adults take six to eight hours up and four to five down. Start early, walk at a steady pace you could hold a conversation at, and rest briefly every hour rather than stopping for long.
Ponies cost about ₹3,000–4,000 one way; palkis about ₹8,000–12,000. Rates are fixed by the local administration and change each season.
Shuttle helicopters fly from Phata, Sersi and Guptkashi; the Phata round trip was ₹6,500 in 2026. Seats are sold only on IRCTC HeliYatra.
Carry a rain jacket, a warm layer, a torch, water and some dry fruit in a small backpack.
The night at Kedarnath is cold and basic; a sleeping bag liner adds comfort.
