Char Dham from Rishikesh by Road
- Ashram or hotel pick-up
- Private car with hill driver
- Budget, deluxe or luxury
Already in Rishikesh for yoga, rafting or a few quiet days by the Ganga? The four dhams are just up the valley. We collect you from your ashram or hotel and bring you back ten days later.
Rishikesh is where the Ganga leaves its gorge, and for many travellers it is where a Himalayan journey truly begins. Yoga students finishing a course in Tapovan, families who came for the Triveni Ghat aarti, and foreign visitors staying near Laxman Jhula often decide to continue up to the shrines. Starting here rather than in Haridwar puts you about 25 km further up the road, closer to the hills and a little ahead on the first long day.
The town also makes travel easy. Yog Nagari Rishikesh station has trains from Delhi and other cities, Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun is close by, and the road north is the same one that leads to Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Badrinath. Our standard ten-day plan runs from Rishikesh at the same price as our Haridwar package.
| Pick-up point | Notes |
|---|---|
| Ashrams and hotels in Tapovan, Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula, Muni ki Reti | Driver meets you at the nearest point a car can reach |

| Jolly Grant airport, Dehradun | Morning flights let you reach Barkot the same day |
| Haridwar | Same price if you prefer to start there |
Some lanes near the river are pedestrian only. Your driver will call and fix the nearest road point a day in advance.

Road prices are per person for a group of four sharing a car, twin or triple sharing. Two travellers pay about ₹27,500 each on budget; a group of 10–12 in a Tempo about ₹19,500 each. The helicopter price includes road transfers from Rishikesh to the Dehradun helipad. All are 2027 estimates; your final quote depends on dates, hotels and group size.
Leave Rishikesh early, before the town's traffic builds up. The road runs through Dehradun and up to Mussoorie, then down to Kempty Falls and along the Yamuna. Depending on road conditions your driver may take the route via Chamba instead; either way you reach Barkot by evening.
Drive to Janki Chatti and set off on the 6 km climb to the shrine of Yamuna Devi. Yoga-fit legs make light work of it, though ponies and palkis are there for anyone who needs them. Return to Barkot after darshan and the hot springs.
A short drive to Uttarkashi, the town of Lord Shiva on the Bhagirathi. Visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple and walk the riverside. An easy day before Gangotri.
Follow the Bhagirathi up to Gangotri, stopping at the Gangnani hot spring and the meadows of Harsil. After darshan, sit for a while at Bhagirath Shila beside the rushing river. Return to Uttarkashi.
A long but beautiful drive into the Mandakini valley. Watch for the first views of the Kedar range as you approach Guptkashi. Pack light for the next two days.
From Sonprayag take the shared jeep to Gaurikund and walk up the Mandakini to Kedarnath at 3,583 m. Ponies and palkis are available, and pilgrims with IRCTC helicopter tickets fly from Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi. The evening aarti is a moment many guests remember most.
Morning darshan of the Jyotirlinga, then the Bhairavnath temple and the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi. Walk down to Gaurikund and jeep to Sonprayag. Drive to Guptkashi to rest.
Cross via Ukhimath and Chopta to the Alaknanda valley, then climb past Joshimath. Bathe in the Tapt Kund on arrival. Attend the evening aarti at Badrinath.
Morning darshan, then Mana village with Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa and Bhim Pul. Drive down past the confluences of the Panch Prayag. Overnight at Rudraprayag or Srinagar.
Stop at Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi become the Ganga. Continue down the gorge to Rishikesh, arriving by early afternoon. End the yatra at the Triveni Ghat aarti if you are staying on.
From about ₹21,500 per person on budget hotels, ₹32,500 deluxe and ₹49,500 luxury, for four people sharing a car. 2027 estimates.
