Gangotri Yamunotri Yatra Package from Haridwar 2027

The Haridwar loop to Yamunotri and Gangotri

Tradition says the Char Dham Yatra moves clockwise, west to east: first Yamunotri, then Gangotri, then Kedarnath and Badrinath. The Gangotri Yamunotri trip is simply the first half of that circle, and from Haridwar it closes neatly into a five-night loop. You go up the Yamuna valley via Mussoorie, cross to the Bhagirathi at Uttarkashi, and come back down past Chamba and Rishikesh, so no stretch of road is driven twice except the short Gangotri day trip.

Starting in Haridwar saves a full day over the Delhi package. Pilgrims arriving by overnight train at Haridwar Junction, or flying into Jolly Grant airport at Dehradun (35 km away), can meet the driver in the morning and be at Barkot the same evening. Families in western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand often drive to Haridwar themselves and park there.

Before you leave Haridwar

Getting to Haridwar

Haridwar Junction has direct trains from most of north and west India, and Rishikesh (Yog Nagari) and Dehradun stations are close by. Air travellers land at Jolly Grant, Dehradun. Our Char Dham by train and by air pages explain the options.

When the shrines are open

Both temples usually open on Akshaya Tritiya in late April or early May. Gangotri closes on Annakoot and Yamunotri on Bhai Dooj, both in October or November. Check the opening and closing dates before you book.

Small things that help

  • Register for the yatra online before reaching Haridwar; the QR code is checked on the road.
  • Start the Yamunotri walk by 7 am so you are back down before afternoon rain.
  • Pony and palki rates are fixed by the local administration and change each season.
  • Carry a light rain jacket, a fleece and comfortable shoes.
  • Read the do's and don'ts for temple etiquette.

Gangotri Yamunotri from Haridwar: FAQ

How far are Yamunotri and Gangotri from Haridwar?

Barkot, the base for Yamunotri, is about 210 km from Haridwar, and Janki Chatti another 45 km. Gangotri is about 270 km from Haridwar via Uttarkashi. Round the full loop you drive roughly 770 km.

What is the cheapest Gangotri Yamunotri package from Haridwar?

The Budget plan starts from about ₹12,500 per person for four people sharing a car. It is an estimate for 2027; the final quote depends on dates, hotels and group size.

Which shrine should I visit first?

Yamunotri first, then Gangotri. It follows the traditional order of the Char Dham Yatra and makes the road loop efficient.

Can I start from Rishikesh instead?

Yes, at the same price. See the package from Rishikesh for that version of the route.

Is there a mobile network on the route?

Major networks work in Barkot and Uttarkashi. Coverage is patchy on the Yamunotri trail and around Gangotri, so share your plan with family before leaving.

Can I stay at Janki Chatti instead of Barkot?

Yes. Janki Chatti and Kharsali have simple stays close to the trailhead and cut the morning drive. We can quote this on request; see Yamunotri hotels.

What if a landslide blocks the road?

Your driver will wait or reroute when safe. Extra nights caused by road closures are paid by the traveller, which is why we advise one spare day in July–August.
