Kedarnath from Haridwar
- Two nights in Guptkashi
- One night near the temple
- Trek, pony or shuttle
Haridwar is where the plains end and every road to the four dhams begins. Start here and a single-dham yatra takes just three nights.
Pilgrims have set out from Haridwar for the high shrines for centuries, and it is still the most sensible starting line. By beginning here rather than in Delhi you save a full day of driving each way, and the price drops with it. Our Ek Dham Yatra from Haridwar is a three-night, four-day loop to any one shrine: Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri or Yamunotri.
Haridwar Junction is well connected by train from most of India, overnight buses run from Delhi, and Jolly Grant airport at Dehradun is only about 35 km away. We collect you from the station, bus stand, airport or your hotel, and the car comes back to the same city at the end. If you prefer a quieter start, the same package runs from Rishikesh, 25 km up the river.
Rates below are per person for a group of four sharing a car and rooms. A couple travelling alone pays more per head because the vehicle cost is split two ways; a family of six usually pays about the same as four.
| Dham (from Haridwar) | Duration | Budget | Deluxe | Luxury |

Estimated 2027 prices. Final cost depends on dates, hotel category and group size. Helicopter, pony and palki charges are extra.
Meet your driver at dawn and roll out past Rishikesh while the road is still empty. A tea stop at Devprayag gives you a view of the two rivers joining to become the Ganga. After Rudraprayag the road turns into the narrow Mandakini valley, and you arrive in Guptkashi by late afternoon.
From Sonprayag a shared jeep carries you to Gaurikund, the start of the footpath. Walkers should set off by 7 am to reach the temple by mid-afternoon; ponies and palkis are hired at counters at the base. If you managed to book an IRCTC shuttle from Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi, you will be at the temple in minutes. Stay overnight in a guest house near the shrine.
The pre-dawn darshan is the quietest time at Kedarnath. Afterwards climb to Bhairavnath, the guardian deity, for a view over the whole valley. The descent is quicker than the climb, and the jeep and car take you back to your Guptkashi hotel by evening.
An unhurried return along the same rivers. You are dropped at Haridwar station, the bus stand or your hotel by afternoon, or at Dehradun airport if your flight is in the evening.
A very early start is essential. You follow the Alaknanda through Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag and Nandprayag, with lunch on the way. Joshimath is the night halt, about 45 km below Badrinath.
Arrive at Badrinath in the morning and take a dip in the Tapt Kund before entering the temple. In the afternoon, go to Mana, the last village before the Tibet border, for Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa and the Saraswati at Bhim Pul. Return for the evening aarti.
If you wish, offer pind daan at Brahma Kapal or attend another early darshan. Drive down the valley in the afternoon and halt at Rudraprayag or Srinagar.
Return past Devprayag and Rishikesh to Haridwar. There is time for a last Ganga snan at Har Ki Pauri before your onward journey.
Gangotri-only trips stay two nights in Uttarkashi and drive to the temple and back on day 2; Yamunotri-only trips stay two nights in Barkot and walk from Janki Chatti on day 2. Both end with a night in Rishikesh, Haridwar, Mussoorie or Dehradun. Details are on the Gangotri Yamunotri tour package page.
Mountain roads are safest in daylight, so cars leave Haridwar at about 6 am. Reaching Haridwar the previous evening, by train or an overnight bus from Delhi, makes that easy. We can book a Haridwar hotel for the extra night.
Each pilgrim needs the free Uttarakhand yatra registration and a photo ID. See the registration guide. For Kedarnath helicopter seats, the only genuine seller is the IRCTC HeliYatra portal; our IRCTC guide explains the steps.
The 2026 season ends in November with the closing of Kedarnath on Bhai Dooj and Badrinath in mid-November. For 2027, watch the opening dates and plan for May–June or mid-September to October (more in best time to visit). Those with Kedarnath on their mind should also read about Kedarnath hotels, which are basic in every category. Pack warm layers whichever month you go; our packing list helps.
