A week from Delhi to two of India's holiest shrines
Delhi is the starting point for more Kedarnath and Badrinath pilgrims than any other city, partly because so many families live here and partly because every train and flight from the rest of India converges on it. A Delhi-based tour removes the need to time a train to Haridwar or a flight to Dehradun: the car comes to your gate in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram or Faridabad and brings you back there at the end.
The trip is one day longer than the Haridwar version, because the plains drive is added at both ends. We break the outward leg with a night in Haridwar so you are not climbing into the hills after six hours on the expressway. Day 1
Delhi to Haridwar

The driver arrives early, and you are on the Meerut expressway before the city wakes. Lunch on the way, check into Haridwar by early afternoon and rest. In the evening, walk to Har Ki Pauri for the Ganga aarti and set your intention for the yatra.
Day 2
Haridwar to Guptkashi

Today you enter the mountains. After Rishikesh the road follows the river's gorge to Devprayag, then on to Srinagar and Rudraprayag. The last stretch up the Mandakini valley brings Guptkashi into view, with snow peaks across the valley if the sky is clear.
Day 3
Trek to Kedarnath

A pre-dawn drive to Sonprayag, then the shared jeep to Gaurikund. Walk, ride a pony or take a palki up the 16 km trail, resting at the shelters along the way. Reach the temple town by afternoon and join the evening aarti in the courtyard.

Day 4
Darshan and back to Guptkashi

Early darshan of the Jyotirlinga is the high point of the trip. Visit Bhairavnath temple and the Shankaracharya Samadhi, then walk down to Gaurikund. Your car takes you from Sonprayag back to the same Guptkashi hotel.
Day 5
Guptkashi to Badrinath

Drive via Ukhimath, Chopta's forests and Chamoli to Joshimath, then up the final gorge to Badrinath. Bathe in the Tapt Kund hot spring and attend the evening aarti at the brightly painted temple.

Day 6
Badrinath, Mana and descent

Morning darshan of Badri Narayan, an optional ritual at Brahma Kapal, and a visit to Mana village with its caves and the stone bridge of Bhim Pul. In the afternoon, drive down to Rudraprayag or Srinagar Garhwal.
Day 7
Home to Delhi

Leave right after breakfast. The road descends past Devprayag and Rishikesh to Haridwar and across the plains to Delhi. You are dropped at home, the station or the airport by late evening.
