Kedarnath Yatra
- Kedarnath only, from Haridwar
- Trek, pony or helicopter
- Ideal first Himalayan trip
Indore's pilgrims know Mahakal at Ujjain and Omkareshwar on the Narmada. Kedarnath is another of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and the four Himalayan dhams are a flight and a short drive away.
Within a couple of hours of Indore lie two of India's twelve Jyotirlingas, Mahakaleshwar at Ujjain and Omkareshwar on the Narmada. Many Indore families who have worshipped at both feel drawn to Kedarnath, the highest Jyotirlinga, in the Himalaya. There is even a link in the name: when snow closes Kedarnath each winter, Lord Kedar's doli is taken down to the Omkareshwar temple at Ukhimath, where he is worshipped until the shrine reopens.

Landing at Dehradun is the most efficient: the road yatra is 9 nights and 10 days, the same as our Char Dham tour from Dehradun. Through Delhi, it becomes the 11-night package from Delhi.

Drive to Janki Chatti and walk or ride the 6 km to Yamunotri. Take darshan of Goddess Yamuna and dip your hands in the hot Surya Kund. Return to Barkot.
Drive to Uttarkashi on the Bhagirathi. Shiva devotees from Indore often visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple here in the evening. Rest for tomorrow.
Up the valley past Gangnani and Harsil to Gangotri. Worship Goddess Ganga at the temple and the Bhagirath Shila. Back to Uttarkashi.

Darshan at Kedarnath is crowded in May and June, and queues can take several hours. Joining the line before dawn on the morning after you arrive gives the calmest darshan. Carry a small offering from home if that is your family custom, and keep it in your day bag rather than the car. Special pujas at the temple are booked separately and are not part of the package. If you have time on the way back, Ukhimath and Guptkashi have old Shiva temples on the route, and Triyuginarayan, where Shiva and Parvati are said to have married, is a short detour from Sonprayag; our driver can plan short stops.
Fly to Dehradun if a convenient flight is available; otherwise fly or take an overnight train to Delhi. We pick you up at either.
