Rishikesh sits right where the mountain road begins, so a yatra from here starts climbing within minutes. Spend a calm evening at Triveni Ghat, then set out for Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath the next morning.
Plenty of pilgrims already know Rishikesh from earlier visits, a yoga retreat or a rafting weekend. Starting the Teen Dham Yatra here makes sense for three reasons: the town is on the main highway into the Garhwal hills, it has its own railway station at Yog Nagari Rishikesh, and Jolly Grant airport is close by. Your driver collects you from an ashram, hotel or the station and heads straight uphill.
The package covers Gangotri, the source temple of the Ganga; Kedarnath, Shiva's Jyotirlinga in the Mandakini valley; and Badrinath, Vishnu's shrine on the Alaknanda. The route and price match our Haridwar plan, but each road day is slightly shorter because Rishikesh is 25 km further up the valley.

A day in Rishikesh before you leave
If you arrive a day early, keep it gentle. Walk the riverside between Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula, sit in on an evening aarti at Triveni Ghat or Parmarth Niketan, and eat a simple vegetarian dinner. Skip strenuous activities such as rafting the day before you leave; the Kedarnath trek three days later needs your legs fresh. Use the time instead to pack a small overnight bag for Kedarnath, buy a rain poncho and confirm every traveller's registration QR code is saved on a phone.

Leave Rishikesh after an early breakfast and climb through Narendranagar and Chamba. The views open up over the Tehri reservoir before the road drops to the Bhagirathi. Reach Uttarkashi early enough to rest or visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple.

Gangotri and back

The road to Gangotri is the most scenic of the whole trip, passing the Gangnani hot spring, deodar forests and Harsil's orchards. At the temple, offer prayers to Goddess Ganga and visit Bhagirath Shila beside the river. Return to Uttarkashi for a second night.

Uttarkashi to Guptkashi

A long but varied drive moves you east across the hills into the Mandakini valley. Your driver knows the good lunch halts along the way. Guptkashi is quieter than Sonprayag and has better hotels, which is why we stay here.

Up to Kedarnath

Drive to Sonprayag and complete the last stretch to Gaurikund by shared jeep. The trek follows the river through forest and then open slopes up to the temple. Pony and palki operators wait at the start, and IRCTC ticket holders fly from their helipad.

Darshan and descent

Early-morning darshan in the stone temple is the reason for the whole climb. See Bhairavnath temple and the Shankaracharya Samadhi before you descend. Meet your car at Sonprayag and return to Guptkashi.
Day 6
Guptkashi to Badrinath

The road crosses through Ukhimath and the Chopta forests, then joins the Alaknanda valley at Chamoli. Climb through Joshimath and the gorge beyond to Badrinath. A hot bath at Tapt Kund prepares you for darshan.
Day 7
Badrinath, Mana and Rudraprayag

Morning darshan of Badri Narayan, followed by Brahma Kapal for families who wish to perform shraddh. Drive to Mana village to see Vyas Gufa and the Saraswati at Bhim Pul. Head down the valley to Rudraprayag.

Rudraprayag to Rishikesh

Follow the Alaknanda to Devprayag and the Ganga to Rishikesh. You are back by early afternoon. Many guests end with the Triveni Ghat aarti before an overnight train or a flight from Jolly Grant.

Teen Dham from Rishikesh: questions
Is the Rishikesh package cheaper than the Haridwar one?
No, the price is the same, starting from about ₹17,500 per person on budget hotels for four people. The only difference is the pick-up point.
Can we start from an ashram in Rishikesh?
Yes. The driver can collect you from any ashram, hotel or guest house in Rishikesh, Tapovan or Muni Ki Reti that a car can reach.
How far is Jolly Grant airport from Rishikesh?
About 35 km, under an hour by road. Fly in and the tour can begin with an airport pick-up. See Char Dham by air.
Are trains available to Rishikesh?
Yes, to Yog Nagari Rishikesh station, though fewer than to Haridwar. Many guests take a train to Haridwar and we collect them there.
How long is the Kedarnath trek?
16 km each way from Gaurikund. Ponies, palkis and pithoos are available at rates fixed by the local administration, and shuttle helicopters fly from Phata, Sersi and Guptkashi.
Can we include Tungnath?
