Kedarnath from Haridwar
- Pick-up at Haridwar or Rishikesh
- Two nights at Guptkashi
- Night at Kedarnath
From the shore temple of Somnath to the snow temple of Kedarnath: a road and trek plan for pilgrims from every part of Gujarat, starting the moment you reach Haridwar or Delhi.
Gujarat is home to two of the twelve Jyotirlingas, Somnath on the Saurashtra coast and Nageshwar near Dwarka, and many Gujarati families set out to see all twelve over a lifetime. Kedarnath is usually the hardest to reach, standing at 3,583 m in the Garhwal Himalaya and approachable only on foot, by pony, palki or helicopter. It is also, for many, the most memorable.
This page is for pilgrims from anywhere in the state: Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Rajkot and the rest of Saurashtra, Surat and south Gujarat, Bhavnagar and Kutch. Your first step is to reach either Haridwar or Delhi. From there our land package takes over with a private vehicle, booked hotels, a night at Kedarnath and an experienced hill driver. We quote the land part; you book the train or flight from your home city.
| Home city | Approx. distance to Delhi | Usual way north | Suggested start |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ahmedabad / Gandhinagar | About 950 km | Overnight train or ~1.5 h flight | Delhi, or Haridwar by through train |
| Vadodara | About 1,000 km | Overnight train or flight | Delhi |
| Surat | About 1,150 km | Overnight train or flight | Delhi |
| Rajkot / Saurashtra | About 1,100–1,200 km | Train, or fly via Ahmedabad | Delhi |
| Bhavnagar / Kutch | About 1,100–1,300 km | Road or train to Ahmedabad, then onwards | Delhi |
A few long-distance trains from Gujarat continue past Delhi to Haridwar and Rishikesh, which suits travellers who would rather stay on one train and start the yatra in Haridwar. Most others ride an overnight train or take a short flight to Delhi and use our Kedarnath package from Delhi. Flying into Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport, usually with a connection, puts you just 35 km from Haridwar. If you live in Surat, our Surat page has group-travel advice; Ahmedabad residents can also see the Ahmedabad page.

Travel from Gujarat, pony, palki and the Gaurikund jeep are extra. The helicopter package includes the shuttle fare only if IRCTC seats are secured; otherwise ₹6,500 less.
If you arrive in Delhi, add a Delhi–Haridwar day at the start and an overnight stop at Srinagar Garhwal on the way back, as described on our Delhi package page.
Start early from your Haridwar hotel or the station. The drive follows the Ganga into the hills, past Rishikesh and the rafting camps of Shivpuri, to the sacred confluence at Devprayag. From Rudraprayag the Mandakini valley leads to Guptkashi, where Shiva is said to have hidden from the Pandavas before revealing himself at Kedarnath.
Drive to Sonprayag, where registrations are checked, and take a shared jeep to Gaurikund. Walk or ride up the paved path as it climbs from forest into open alpine country. Reach the temple in the afternoon and attend the evening aarti before a cold night near the shrine.
Take darshan at dawn, when the queue is short. Climb to the Bhairavnath temple, protector of the shrine through the winter months, and visit the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi. After breakfast, walk or ride down to Gaurikund and drive back to Guptkashi.
Return down the valley with stops at Rudraprayag and Devprayag. Reach Haridwar by late afternoon for a final dip at Har Ki Pauri before your train back to Gujarat.
The entire yatra route is vegetarian. Gujarati thalis are easy to find in Haridwar, and many hotels in Guptkashi will cook without onion and garlic if told in advance. At Kedarnath, meals are basic, so carry dry snacks such as khakhra, thepla and dry fruit for the trek.
Take an overnight train or a short flight to Delhi, or a through train to Haridwar. From there, our land package covers the road to Sonprayag, the night at Kedarnath and the return.
Land packages start from about ₹8,500 per person from Haridwar and ₹10,500 from Delhi (budget, four people). Train or air travel from Gujarat is extra.
