Teen Dham from Haridwar
- Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath
- Pick-up at Haridwar station
- Breakfast and dinner
Bengali travellers have walked these Himalayan valleys for generations. Take a long-distance train from Howrah or a flight to Delhi or Dehradun, and our vehicle carries you from Haridwar to Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.
Ask any Kolkata family about the Kedar-Badri yatra and someone will mention a grandparent who went decades ago, often by train and bus, sometimes on foot. Today the journey is far easier, but the pull is the same. The Teen Dham Yatra brings together Gangotri, where the Bhagirathi, the river that becomes the Ganga flowing past Kolkata, begins its journey; Kedarnath, Shiva's Jyotirlinga; and Badrinath, Vishnu's northern seat. It leaves out only Yamunotri.
Kolkata is about 1,500 km from Delhi. A few long-distance trains from Howrah run right through to Haridwar or Dehradun, which suits families who enjoy rail travel; others take a train or a flight of about two and a quarter hours to Delhi. Our land package starts in Haridwar, so you avoid an extra day on the plains if your train goes all the way.
Groups from Kolkata often travel as extended families or with neighbours from the same para. A Tempo Traveller for ten to twelve people keeps everyone together and lowers the per-person cost; tell us your numbers and we will quote accordingly.

Drive up the valley past the hot spring at Gangnani and the apple country of Harsil. At Gangotri, offer prayers at the temple of Ganga Ma and see Bhagirath Shila. Many Bengali families carry Gangajal from here back to Kolkata, completing a symbolic circle with the river at home. Return to Uttarkashi.
A long day on mountain roads, crossing from the Bhagirathi to the Mandakini valley. Expect tea stops in small hill bazaars and a simple lunch on the way. Guptkashi faces the Chaukhamba peaks and is your base for Kedarnath.
Drive to Sonprayag and take the shared jeep to Gaurikund. Walk the 16 km trail or ride a pony; palkis are available for elders. With IRCTC shuttle tickets, you fly from Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi instead. Evening aarti at the temple.
Morning darshan at Kedarnath, then a short climb to the Bhairavnath temple. Descend to Gaurikund and take the jeep to Sonprayag. Rest in Guptkashi. Bring a pair of dry socks in your day bag; the descent can be wet.
Cross via Ukhimath and Chopta, then climb along the Alaknanda through Joshimath to Badrinath. Bathe in Tapt Kund and attend the evening aarti. Badrinath is cold at night even in summer.
Morning darshan of Badri Narayan and pind daan at Brahma Kapal for those who wish. Visit Mana village, Vyas Gufa and Bhim Pul. Drive down to Rudraprayag. Tea stalls at Mana advertise themselves as the last tea shop of India, a favourite photo stop.
Descend along the Alaknanda past Srinagar and Devprayag. Reach Haridwar by afternoon. Board your evening train towards Kolkata, or stay on for the Har Ki Pauri aarti.
Hotels range from comfortable mid-range rooms at Uttarkashi and Guptkashi to basic guest houses at Kedarnath. See Kedarnath hotels for what to expect at the temple.
