Kedarnath for Bengaluru
- Dehradun airport pick-up
- Guptkashi and Kedarnath stays
- Trek, pony or IRCTC shuttle
Over 2,000 km separate Bengaluru from the Garhwal Himalaya, but a morning flight closes the gap. Use one week of leave well: fly in, see one dham, fly home.
Bengaluru sits on the Deccan plateau with mild weather all year, and that is the first thing to plan for: the Himalayan shrines are cold, high and remote. The second is distance. Delhi is roughly 2,150 km away, so a train journey eats up two days each way. For almost every Bengaluru pilgrim the answer is to fly, either to Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport, 35 km from Haridwar and Rishikesh, or to Delhi.
From the airport we run a short, focused road yatra to one shrine. Kedarnath, with its 16 km trek and Jyotirlinga, is the most popular choice; Badrinath is reached by road and suits parents and grandparents. Gangotri-only and Yamunotri-only trips are available too.
| Option | Arrive at | Approx. time | Package to join |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flight (direct on some days, or via a connection) | Dehradun | 3–6 hours | 3N/4D from Haridwar/Dehradun, from ₹8,500 |
| Flight | Delhi | About 2.5–3 hours | 4N/5D from Delhi, from ₹10,500 |
| Train | Delhi | About 35–40 hours | 4N/5D from Delhi |
Dehradun saves you a full day of driving at each end. If Dehradun fares are high on your dates, fly to Delhi and join the Ek Dham package from Delhi. Try to land before noon so that the drive into the hills starts in daylight, since hill roads are not driven after dark. More on this in our Char Dham by air guide.
Per person for four travellers sharing a car and twin or triple rooms. Flights from Bengaluru are booked by you and are not included.

Land at Jolly Grant in the morning and meet your driver outside arrivals. You bypass Rishikesh and climb along the Ganga to Devprayag, then the Alaknanda to Rudraprayag. A turn into the Mandakini valley brings you to Guptkashi by evening; later flights mean a night in Rishikesh first.
Leave early for Sonprayag and the shared jeep to Gaurikund. The 16 km path climbs about 1,600 m; take it slowly, with breaks every half hour. Ponies and palkis are available, and IRCTC shuttle holders fly from Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi. Evening aarti at the temple.
Early morning darshan of the Jyotirlinga, then the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi, a special stop for pilgrims from the south. Walk down to Gaurikund and drive back to Guptkashi.
An early start brings you to Jolly Grant by mid-afternoon. Book an evening flight, or add a night in Rishikesh for safety.
Because this drive is long, we suggest flying in the day before and sleeping in Rishikesh. Leave at dawn and follow the Alaknanda past four of the Panch Prayag to Joshimath.
Reach Badrinath, bathe in the Tapt Kund and take darshan of Badri Narayan. Visit Mana village with its Vyas Gufa and Bhim Pul, then the evening aarti.
Morning darshan or Brahma Kapal rites, then the descent to Rudraprayag or Srinagar Garhwal.
Drive past Devprayag and Rishikesh to Jolly Grant for your flight back to Bengaluru.
If you can spare only a long weekend, there are two honest choices. The first is to hold an IRCTC shuttle ticket from Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi, which turns the two Kedarnath trek days into one; seats go quickly and are sold only on the HeliYatra portal. The second is a same-day helicopter charter from Dehradun to Kedarnath or Badrinath, which costs far more but needs just one day. Both are explained on our Ek Dham helicopter page. Gangotri-only and Yamunotri-only trips, by contrast, are road journeys and cannot be shortened much below 3N/4D.
Fly to Dehradun, drive to Guptkashi the same day, then trek or take an IRCTC shuttle to Kedarnath. The whole yatra takes about four days from Dehradun.
From about ₹8,500 per person from Dehradun or Haridwar, or ₹10,500 from Delhi, for four people on budget hotels. Flights are extra. These are 2027 estimates.
Flights run between the two cities, sometimes direct and sometimes with a connection. Check current schedules when you plan.
Yes, if you are in reasonable health and walk slowly. The path is paved and busy. Ponies and palkis are always available.
Badrinath, which has no trek. Kedarnath can be managed by palki or helicopter shuttle if seats are secured.
