Surat's working families usually get one long break a year. This page shows how to fit Kedarnath and Badrinath into it, from the train or flight north to the last darshan.
For many households in Surat, whether in textiles, diamonds or trade, the calendar decides the pilgrimage. Some families travel in the May vacation, when schools are shut. Others wait for the long Diwali break that many Surat businesses take. Both can work for Kedarnath and Badrinath, but the autumn window is narrow, because both temples close for winter in November.
Our solution is a fixed-length land tour of 6 nights and 7 days that starts and ends in Delhi. You choose the train or flight from Surat; we take care of everything from Delhi onwards. Total time away from home is about nine days by train or seven to eight with flights. For a shorter plan, consider only one shrine with our Kedarnath from Surat or Badrinath from Surat packages.

Kedarnath closes on Bhai Dooj; do darshan before Diwali
If the Diwali break is your only option, start the tour at least four to five days before Diwali so that Kedarnath falls well before Bhai Dooj. Badrinath stays open a little longer, usually until mid-November. Exact closing dates are announced each year; see the opening dates page and our best time to visit guide.

Getting from Surat to Delhi
Train: several overnight services link Surat with Delhi in roughly 15–17 hours. Arriving in the morning lets the tour start the same day.
Flight: Surat has direct and one-stop flights to Delhi of around two hours, depending on the schedule.
Via Mumbai or Ahmedabad: if seats from Surat are full, connecting from a nearby big city is a practical fallback.
Whichever you choose, share the arrival time with us. Our driver tracks the train or flight and waits at the gate. Read the Char Dham by train guide for booking tips.

Hotel rates rise sharply in May and June, especially at Kedarnath, where a basic room can cost ₹2,500–6,000 a night. Booking two to three months ahead keeps you in the category you paid for.
Kedarnath helicopter seats are sold only on IRCTC HeliYatra; see our online ticket guide.
Pack warm clothes even in May; nights at 3,000 m are cold. Our packing list helps.
Carry some cash; card machines are unreliable in the hills.

Surat to Kedarnath and Badrinath: FAQ
Can we do Kedarnath and Badrinath during the Diwali vacation?
Yes, if you start early enough. Kedarnath closes on Bhai Dooj, a day or two after Diwali, so the Kedarnath darshan must fall before that. Badrinath usually stays open until mid-November.
Will a Diwali-time Do Dham trip from Surat be very cold?
Light snow at Kedarnath is possible from late October. Roads usually stay open, but carry heavy woollens and expect very cold mornings.
How much does the Do Dham trip cost from Surat in total?
The land tour starts from about ₹15,500 per person (four travellers, budget hotels). Add your train or flight to Delhi and back, and spending money for pony, helicopter or puja.
Can Surat pilgrims fly straight to Dehradun?
Direct flights are limited; most people connect via Delhi or another hub. If you land in Dehradun, we switch you to the 5N/6D Haridwar package.
Is there a helicopter option for both shrines?
Yes, the Do Dham helicopter charter from Dehradun covers both in 1 night and 2 days, estimated at ₹1,25,000 per person.
Do you serve Gujarati-style food?
Hotels serve North Indian vegetarian meals; we pass on requests for less spice or no onion-garlic. Families often carry snacks from home.
