Kedarnath from Haridwar
- Guptkashi base
- Night at Kedarnath
- Trek, pony or shuttle
Surat's busy calendar leaves a few windows a year for a pilgrimage. A single-dham yatra fits neatly into one of them, if you know which temples are open when.
Ask a Surat family when they can travel and the answer is often "summer vacation or the Diwali break". Both can work for an Ek Dham Yatra, but the second needs care. Kedarnath and Yamunotri close on Bhai Dooj, Gangotri a day earlier on Annakoot, and Badrinath a little later, usually in mid-November. So a Diwali-week trip to Kedarnath must reach the temple before Bhai Dooj, while Badrinath gives you a few more days of slack.
Surat is roughly 1,150 km from Delhi. Most pilgrims take an overnight train to Delhi or a flight, and some find a train that runs through to Haridwar. From Haridwar our 3N/4D package takes you to Kedarnath or Badrinath and back. If you arrive in Delhi, we start from there with the 4N/5D Delhi plan from ₹10,500.
| Mode | Route | Approx. time | What next |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overnight train | Surat – Delhi | 15–17 hours | Bus, train or our car to Haridwar (230 km) |
| Flight | Surat – Delhi | About 2 hours | Our car from the airport (Delhi plan) |

Arriving the evening before day 1 is the key. Haridwar departures leave at about 6 am so that the hill drive is done in daylight. We can book a Haridwar hotel for that extra night, and it gives you an unhurried evening at Har Ki Pauri before the mountains.Read our train guide for timing tips.

Your driver picks you up from the Haridwar hotel at first light. The day passes in a series of river views: the Ganga at Rishikesh, the confluence at Devprayag, the Alaknanda and Mandakini meeting at Rudraprayag. Guptkashi welcomes you by late afternoon.
Drive to Sonprayag, take the shared jeep to Gaurikund and start the 16 km climb. Ponies and palkis can be hired at the start at fixed local rates; IRCTC shuttle passengers fly from Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi. By evening you are standing before the stone temple for aarti.
Morning darshan is the main event. Then visit Bhairavnath temple and the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi before the descent. Your driver waits at Sonprayag for the drive to Guptkashi.
Return down the valley to Haridwar by afternoon, in time for an evening train towards Delhi or Surat.
Leave Haridwar before 6 am. The long drive follows the Alaknanda past Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag and Nandprayag, and ends in Joshimath.
Arrive in Badrinath, bathe at the Tapt Kund and take darshan of Badri Narayan. In the afternoon walk around Mana village, Vyas Gufa and Bhim Pul. Evening aarti.
An early darshan or rites at Brahma Kapal, then the descent to Rudraprayag or Srinagar Garhwal.
Drive back through Devprayag and Rishikesh to Haridwar by mid-afternoon.
The two western shrines are less crowded and make a good single-dham trip in early summer. Gangotri only runs 3N/4D from Haridwar with two nights in Uttarkashi; the road goes to the temple, and Harsil and the Gangnani hot spring are on the way. Yamunotri only stays two nights in Barkot and includes a 6 km walk or pony ride from Janki Chatti, finishing in Mussoorie or Dehradun. Both start from ₹8,500 per person. Remember that Gangotri closes on Annakoot, the day after Diwali, so these are not Diwali-break options. To see both together, look at the Gangotri Yamunotri package from Surat.
Yes, but only if you reach the temple before it closes on Bhai Dooj. Badrinath stays open a little longer, usually until mid-November.
