A private car with a mountain driver gives you the four dhams at your own pace: stop where you like, leave when you are ready and keep the family together. Here are the car options, fares and a practical 10-day plan.
Haridwar sits exactly where the Ganga leaves the mountains. From here the road to Barkot climbs straight into the hills, so a car hired in Haridwar spends all ten days on the yatra rather than two days on the plains highway from Delhi. Trains from almost every part of India stop at Haridwar Junction, and Dehradun airport is about 35 km away.
A car yatra suits families of two to seven who want privacy and flexible timings. You decide how long to sit at Devprayag, whether to stop for a bath at Gangnani, and when to set off for Kedarnath. The driver handles the mountain roads, parking at crowded road heads and the paperwork at check posts, while you focus on darshan.

The package price includes the car, nine hotel nights and breakfast and dinner. Deluxe and luxury figures are for four travellers; see the luxury Char Dham package for what the top category adds. Families of ten or more save with the Tempo Traveller option.
Which car should you choose?
Dzire – the economical pick for a couple or three adults with soft bags. Boot space is limited, so pack light.
Ertiga – a good middle choice for a family of five, with a third row and more headroom.
Innova Crysta – the most comfortable on rough stretches and long days, with captain seats and space for elders to rest. Read more in the Haridwar Innova Crysta package.
Thinking of driving your own car? It is possible, but the Uttarkashi–Guptkashi and Guptkashi–Badrinath days are long, narrow and tiring. Most families find a local hill driver far less stressful. Also see Char Dham package by car for other starting points.

Char Dham from Haridwar by car: FAQ
What is the taxi fare for Char Dham Yatra from Haridwar?
About ₹38,000 for a Dzire, ₹46,000 for an Ertiga and ₹58,000 for an Innova Crysta, for 10 days from Haridwar back to Haridwar. These 2027 estimates include fuel, driver, tolls, parking and permits.
Which car is best for the Char Dham Yatra?
For four or more people, or with elders, the Innova Crysta is the most comfortable. A Dzire is fine for two or three travellers with light luggage.
Can the car go up to Kedarnath?
No. Private cars stop at Sonprayag. A shared jeep goes on to Gaurikund, and the last 16 km to the temple is a trek or a helicopter flight.
Do I need to pay for the driver's food and stay?
No. The driver allowance is built into the fare.
Can I book only the car and choose my own hotels?
Yes. Car-only hire is common. Our Kedarnath hotel guide helps you plan the toughest night stop.
How many days does the yatra take by car from Haridwar?
Nine nights and ten days is the comfortable minimum. An extra buffer day is wise in the monsoon months.
