Char Dham by Tempo Traveller
- 12-seat Tempo from Haridwar/Dehradun
- Ideal for 10–12 people
- Fuel, driver and permits included
Bhiwandi sits a short drive from Mumbai's airport and Kalyan's rail junction. Fly north to Dehradun, and the Himalaya is only a few hours' drive from the runway.
Bhiwandi's busy weeks rarely leave room for long holidays, so the yatra plan has to be tight. The good news is that Bhiwandi is close to two big transport hubs: Mumbai's airport and the Kalyan–Thane rail belt. From either one, you can reach the starting point of the Char Dham road circuit in a single day.
We suggest flying to Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport. It is about 35 km from Haridwar and Rishikesh, so the yatra begins directly in the hills and lasts 9 nights and 10 days. This is the same plan as our Char Dham tour from Dehradun. Families who prefer Delhi flights, or the train, can join our 11-night package from Delhi instead.
| Option | From | Approx. travel time | Yatra starts at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flight to Dehradun | Mumbai airport | About 2.5 hours non-stop, longer with a change | Dehradun, 9N/10D |
| Flight to Delhi | Mumbai airport | About 2–2.5 hours | Delhi, 11N/12D |
| Train to Delhi | Kalyan / Thane / Mumbai | About 16–24 hours | Delhi, 11N/12D |
| Train towards Haridwar/Dehradun | Mumbai area | Well over a day | Haridwar, 9N/10D |
Mumbai airport is roughly an hour or more from Bhiwandi depending on traffic, so leave early. Flight schedules to Dehradun vary by season; if a non-stop flight is not available on your date, a one-stop flight via Delhi still works well. Train lovers can board at Kalyan for Delhi, or check the few longer-distance trains that run towards Haridwar. Our Char Dham by air and by train guides compare both.
Each rate is per person for four people sharing one vehicle and twin or triple rooms. Flights from Mumbai are booked by you and are not included. Bhiwandi groups often travel as extended families or with colleagues; a Tempo Traveller for ten to twelve people is the most economical choice.

Your driver waits at Jolly Grant airport arrivals. The road climbs through Dehradun town to Mussoorie, where the first views of the snow ranges appear on a clear day. Descend to the Yamuna valley and check in at Barkot.
Drive to Janki Chatti, the start of the walk. The 6 km path is steep but short; ponies and palkis wait at the base. After darshan of Goddess Yamuna and a dip of the hands in Surya Kund, return to Barkot.
A gentle day's drive takes you to Uttarkashi on the Bhagirathi. Rest in the afternoon or visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple in town. Dinner is early as tomorrow starts at dawn.
Stop at the Gangnani hot spring on the way up, then pass through Harsil's deodar forests. At Gangotri, worship Goddess Ganga and see the Bhagirath Shila where King Bhagirath is said to have prayed. Return to Uttarkashi.
This long road day skirts the Tehri reservoir before entering the Mandakini valley. The driver plans lunch at a roadside dhaba. Prepare a small bag for the Kedarnath night; large luggage stays in the car.
Take the shared jeep from Sonprayag to Gaurikund and begin the climb. Walkers, pony riders and palki passengers all share the path. If you hold IRCTC shuttle tickets, you fly from Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi instead and have extra time at the temple.
Wake before dawn for darshan, then visit the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi. Walk down to Gaurikund and ride the jeep to Sonprayag, where the car waits. Rest in Guptkashi.
The road crosses into the Alaknanda valley via Ukhimath and Chopta's forests. After Joshimath, the last stretch climbs to Badrinath at 3,133 m. Attend the evening aarti at the temple.
Bathe in Tapt Kund before morning darshan. Visit Mana, often called the last village before the Tibet border, for Vyas Gufa and Bhim Pul. Drive down to Rudraprayag or Srinagar.
Follow the river via Devprayag and Rishikesh to Jolly Grant airport. Book an evening flight to Mumbai so that any road delay does not cost you the flight. You are home in Bhiwandi the same night.
Stays are at Barkot (2 nights), Uttarkashi (2), Guptkashi or Sitapur (2), Kedarnath (1), Badrinath (1) and Rudraprayag or Srinagar (1). Kedarnath rooms are basic for every category; see Kedarnath hotel booking for what to expect.
